Xiaomi is making a bold move. Skipping the ’16’ moniker entirely, the new Xiaomi 17 series is here to align directly with Apple’s naming scheme, and it’s bringing a new top-tier model to the fight: the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max.
This new “Pro Max” is, in many ways, the spiritual successor to the beloved Xiaomi 15 Pro, but it’s bigger, bolder, and packed with experimental tech.
One important note before we dive in: we are reviewing the Chinese version of the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max. The Xiaomi 17 series is the first in the world to run Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset. This 3nm silicon promises not just the expected performance leap (with its 4.6 GHz Oryon V3 high-performance cores) but also significant gains in power efficiency. Paired with up to 16GB of RAM and new UFS 4.1 storage, this phone isblazing fast. HyperOS 3 feels incredibly fluid, and no app or game we threw at it caused a single stutter.
Camera Overhaul: 50MP All-Round
Xiaomi has made meaningful updates to the camera system.

Yes, you read that right. Xiaomi has managed to fit a colossal 7,500mAh battery into this phone’s 8.0mm frame. This is, without a doubt, the biggest battery we’ve ever seen in a mainstream flagship. As expected, battery life is phenomenal. This is a legitimate two-day phone, even with heavy use.
The best part? There’s no compromise on charging. The 17 Pro Max still supports 100W wired HyperCharge and 50W wireless charging.

Our Chinese retail unit came with a generous box. We got the 100W HyperCharge power adapter, a USB-C cable, and a clear protective silicone case. If this phone ever launches in Europe or India, don’t expect the charger to be included.
First Impressions
